Kellswater Flute Band took part in the Northern Ireland Band’s Association Championship of Ireland Contest on Saturday 20th October, held in The Market Place Theatre, Armagh.

The trip to Armagh City proved to be very successful, as they gained first place in the Grade 2 flute section and in addition, the trophy for the best interpretation of the test piece; Semiramide by Rossini, was awarded to their popular conductor Glen Houston.

Kellswater narrowly missed out on the title last year, but this time the band, celebrating their 60th Anniversary, secured the win, making 2007 the most successful Contest season overall in the band’s history.

The Northern Ireland Bands Association’s annual presentation dinner will be held in the Millbrook Lodge Hotel, Ballynahinch where Kellswater will receive their awards.

In November, Kellswater Band’s major 60th Anniversary celebration will be a Dinner/Dance and History Evening to be held in The Ross Park Hotel on Friday16th at 7.00pm.

All former members and friends of the band are welcome and the cost for the evening is £25, the event begins at 7.00pm with a drinks reception and history display followed by a four course meal. Entertainment will be provided by the ever popular Backbeat, smart dress code applies.
